Mumedi Design Hotel, Mexico City Review

mumedi design hotel

On both sides of the restaurant, there are shop products displayed throughout the ground floor. As a major supporter of local artisans and designers, MUMEDIShop carries a comprehensive inventory of artistic goods. What it has actually developed into is an experimental incubator for small to mid-sized designers and companies where they can sell their products. At the shop, guests can find Frida Kahlo-inspired mugs, niche publications, artisanal accessories, avant-garde design jewelries. From receiving feedback directly from the customers, designers can instantly learn and make alterations. Perched high in the sleepy village of Bad Gastein, the cōmodo is housed in what was once a hotel in the 1960s and later a sanatorium for the employees of the city of Vienna.

In addition, it was the little details that really mattered. All the bathrooms were equipped with Aesop products, there were complimentary fresh green and red juices in the fitness area and eucalyptus cooling towels, and the decor on the main level really embodied the 'so cal' modern vibe. Rooms were on the smaller side, but very comfortable. Bathrooms were equipped with Aesop products, lighting was warm and indirect, the bed was comfortable and it was nice to be able to open the window for some fresh LA air. Location was fantastic to use as a base to explore downtown LA. Minutes to the central food market, surrounded by Art Deco architecture and a quick drive to the Arts district.

The rooms were large for a retrofitted building in DTLA and the Decore was very nice. When i had problem it was fixed without any issue. The place has many amenities. It has extraordinary design and basically makes you want to stay within the hotel and not go outside. Design Hotels is partnered with Marriott BonvoyTM.

To a YMCA in the 1960s, the hotel puts guests just steps from some of Downtown L.A.’s most colorful neighborhoods, including the Fashion District and South Park District. The singular basketball court and swimming pool suites make perfect venues for special events, while the multilevel rooftop deck is home to cozy corners, a fire pit, a pool, and a sky-high restaurant and bar. Today, MUMEDI Design Hotel boasts six spacious suites, each is decorated in contemporary styles with different flairs. Contrasting the antiquated history rooted in its ancient neighborhood, the suites are adorned with modern amenities as well as large paintings created by local Mexican artists. It’s almost as if a traveler can spend a night at a museum, immersed in barren brick walls, underneath exalted wood beams. Set in Guadalajara’s trending Lafayette district, Casa Habita’s interior was conceived by the renowned Milanese firm Dimorestudio who combine classical European design with the colorful aesthetics of Mexico, punctuated by intense shades of burgundy, salmon, and artichoke.

The al fresco roof deck, quite simply, awes with an outdoor fireplace and stunning views of the city. Our most memorable part of our stay at the Downtown Proper was the service and hospitality. The staff were all very friendly, professional and hospitable.

Custom-made sofas, weathered leather armchairs, and bookshelves filled with hardcover classics augment private fireplaces and outdoor terraces with al fresco dining areas. Helmed by James Beard award-winners, the ground floor Caldo Verde is an homage to global culinary traditions, from Spanish to Moorish, Corsican to Portuguese, featuring vegetable-driven market fare. The rooftop Cara Cara, with its 360-degree city views and al fresco dining, is the perfect mix of delectable Southern California cuisine and social vibrancy.

The hotel’s interiors interpret the Memphis aesthetic in subtler ways, as with its use of curves and bold hues. For example, the bar is supported by round columns of red travertine and features fluting in the cōmodo red—a color seen throughout the hotel. The design is rounded out by a natural stone bar top, raw brass elements, and typical Austrian landhaus dielen flooring, which retain the timber’s natural knots. Celebrated designer Kelly Wearstler adheres to the Memphis credo in her rejection of tradition. At Downtown L.A. Proper Hotel, she manifests a festive energy into an historic California Renaissance Revival building.

The studio carefully chose the furnishings and fixtures throughout, with most of the pieces being supplied by the Milanese’s firm own collection. The rest of the furniture is bespoke or sourced from designers such as Pierre Frey and Thonet. The short-lived design movement took the world by storm, with its playful abstract and angular furniture and bold graphic patterns, when the collection was presented at Milan’s Arc’74 gallery in September 1981.

The property is nonsmoking and is set 656 feet from Zocalo Square. At the hotel, the rooms come with a desk, a flat-screen TV and a private bathroom. The nearest airport is Benito Juarez International Airport, 5 mi from Mumedi Design Hotel. No. 17 building has been renovated and reborn with a completely different vibe, trading in boho cool for a Japanese-ryokan-inspired aesthetic. Designed by M Royce Architecture in collaboration with gry space, the rooms feature polished concrete floors, low-to-the-ground king-sized and queen-sized beds and high loft-like ceilings. A study in grays, beiges and whites, the hotel is a spartan but serene respite from the urban-core streets of the Arts District. Intimate corners, a checkered tile firepit, and all-day dining and drink mean the pool setting is alive under the sun and the stars.

As Wearstler notes, the hotel’s interiors take cues from L.A.’s creative scene as well as the colors and forms of Mexican, Moroccan, Spanish, and Portuguese design. “My point of reference for the Proper Hotels is always the location, so Downtown L.A. Proper really called for bold and eclectic choices,” she said. The property’s ground-floor Kodō restaurant serves everything from sushi rolls and omakase platters to salads and main dishes like Uni-mentaiko Cream Pasta with cured egg yolk. It features minimalist meets earthy design in keeping with the aesthetic of the hotel, as well as an outdoor patio and a private dining room that’s located in the fire station’s former handball court.
